Portugal vs Hungary: Ronaldo’s Hunt vs Szoboszlai’s Fire — Will Portugal Book Their World Cup Spot?

Portugal are back in action at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, just one win away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Roberto Martínez’s team have been perfect so far, winning all their games in Group F and sitting top of the table.

Last weekend, they beat Ireland 1-0 thanks to a late Ruben Neves header, even after Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty, something you don’t see often. But even when Portugal doesn’t play their best, they still find a way to win. That’s what makes this team dangerous.

At home, Portugal are almost unstoppable. They’ve gone unbeaten in 12 straight qualifiers and often score two or more goals a game. With Bruno Fernandes pulling the strings, Rafael Leão flying down the left, and Ronaldo still chasing more records, it’s hard to see them slowing down now.

Hungary comes into this game fighting to stay alive in the group. After a rough start, Marco Rossi’s side bounced back with a 2-0 win over Armenia. They now sit second, and while they don’t score as freely as Portugal, they’ve got spirit and some talented players.

Dominik Szoboszlai is their main man, a player who can change a game in one moment. But Hungary’s defense hasn’t been great lately, keeping only two clean sheets in their last nine matches. That’s a big worry when facing Portugal’s attack.

History isn’t on Hungary’s side either. They’ve never beaten Portugal in their last 15 meetings. The last time they played, Portugal won 3-2. To get anything this time, Hungary will need Szoboszlai to be at his best and their defense to hold firm for 90 minutes.
