Everton vs Liverpool: A Merseyside Derby That Could Make an EPL Champion or a Relegated Side

A hopeful Everton side will welcome Merseyside rivals Liverpool the Goodison Park, for their outstanding match-day 29 English Premier League game on Wednesday night in a game that could either go a long way to crown EPL champions or relegate a side.

Such will be the high stakes in this latest derby game between two long-time EPL teams as a win for the home side could see them remain in the league at the end of all 38 matches, while a win for the Reds could see them potentially crowned champions if Arsenal and City mess up in their respective remaining games.

Everton & Sean Dyche Would Love to Beat Relegation Still

Everton has had their problems this season, and many of them have been off the field with the Toffees suffering multiple sanctions and point deductions as a result of their financial dealings, regardless, the Merseyside club would love to finish the season strongly.

Despite their troubles on and off the pitch, Everton have managed to stay 5 points above the relegation zone and they would love to keep their ambition of beating the drop into the championship by finishing out the season as good as they can.

Like it or not, beating the relegation threat means getting great results in their remaining games including this Wednesday’s derby against Liverpool with the chasing clubs beneath Everton still capable of surpassing Everton in the four remaining games.

Their recent 2-0 win over Forests, regardless of the controversies afterwards, marked a fourth game where Everton went unbeaten in their last 5 games at Goodison Park including draws with Spurs and Villa, something that should give Everton all the confidence they need going against a Liverpool side they’ve suffered at the hands of.

Liverpool’s Have Been Dominant over Everton

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have given Everton a tough time in recent Merseyside derbies and going into this crucial one with only four games to go till the end of the season and Liverpool 2nd on the EPL table on goal difference, not much difference is expected.

Liverpool’s dominance over the Toffees in recent times can be summed up in their being unbeaten in their last 12 travels to the Goodison Park in the English Premier League making Everton their longest run without a win against any opponent in their history.

One can expect Jurgen Klopp’s side, superior in personnel and quality, to continue the trend having already beaten those 2-0 in the reverse fixture in October last year and knee deep and in a race for the English Premier League title.

Without UEFA Europa League and FA Cup successes, having been eliminated by Atalanta and Man United respectively from both competitions, Jurgen Klopp’s perfect farewell in his last season with the Reds is starting to look grim so Liverpool is expected to fight tooth and nail for the league, their only trophy alive somewhat.
