Wirtz, Osimhen, Mbeumo: The Most Expensive Transfers of the 2025 Summer Window

Wirtz, Osimhen, Mbeumo: The Most Expensive Transfers of the 2025 Summer Window
The summer transfer market is a strange place. One day your club is “not interested,” the next day they’re announcing a £100m signing you didn’t even know was possible. This year? It’s been pure chaos, hijacks, emotional farewells, unlikely destinations, and record-breaking deals.

With the 2025/26 season about to kick off and the transfer window entering its final stretch, here’s our in-depth look at the 10 most expensive deals so far, the drama, the numbers, the personalities, and the expectations that come with a monster price tag.

🔟 Mohammed Kudus- €63.8m (Tottenham, from West Ham) 🇬🇭🪄

This one hurt West Ham. Kudus was their “Starboy,” the dribble king of the Premier League, and now he’s wearing white for their biggest rivals.

Spurs’ announcement video made it worse.

"I only wanted Spurs."

The same player who had been praised for his loyalty left with no fanfare, and West Ham fans flipped, many calling him overrated, overhyped, and a traitor.

But Kudus doesn’t seem bothered.

"I try to entertain the fans as much as I can… I want to make the team feel like they can depend on me."

Expect fireworks when Spurs meet West Ham this season. It’s personal now.

9️⃣ Viktor Gyokeres- €65.8m (Arsenal, from Sporting CP) 🇸🇪💥

This deal wasn’t smooth. Gyokeres went AWOL from Sporting training, fought with ownership, and forced the move through. Even his agent gave up his commission to make it happen.

Arsenal got their man, a forward who scored 54 goals in 54 games and added 13 assists. Those are video game numbers.

"To be a part of this club and to score in this kit… I can’t wait. It will be an amazing feeling." This wasn’t just a signing. It was a statement. And Arsenal fans are already dreaming.

8️⃣ Mateo Retegui- €68.25m (Al-Qadsiah, from Genoa) 🇮🇹🇦🇷💰

A pure poacher. Retegui scored 28 goals in 49 matches for Atalanta and instantly became one of Europe’s most-wanted strikers.

But instead of staying in Italy or moving to a top-five league, he took the Saudi offer. Cue the accusations of “chasing the bag.”

The club, however, sees it differently: they believe they’ve bought a world-class forward in his prime. If Retegui keeps scoring, it’ll be hard to argue.

7️⃣ Luis Díaz- €70m (Bayern Munich, from Liverpool) 🇨🇴💨

Barcelona chased him for months. But Bayern, as always, got the deal done. Díaz leaves Liverpool after a season of mixed form, 17 goals, and 8 assists in 50 games, but never quite consistent. "I want to help my new team… My goal is to win every possible title."

He’s explosive, relentless, and fearless, and with Bayern losing key wide players in recent years, Díaz might just be the final piece of their next Champions League push.

6️⃣ Martín Zubimendi- €70m (Arsenal, from Real Sociedad) 🇪🇸🛡️

This wasn’t a flashy transfer. But for Arteta, it was essential. Zubimendi is a tempo-setter. A destroyer who doesn’t dive into tackles. A brain in boots.

“I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me.”

Arsenal fans hoping for a marquee striker might’ve shrugged. But ask any coach: title-winning sides are built on players like Zubimendi.

5️⃣ Matheus Cunha- €74.2m (Manchester United, from Wolves) 🇧🇷🔟

This one came out of thin air. One minute United were weighing options, the next Cunha was in for a medical and handed Rashford’s No.10 shirt. He scored 17 goals and added 6 assists last season, but this move is about more than numbers. It’s about urgency. United didn’t let this one drag. "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team."

WelBeast on X: “Unlike players we have seen before that have joined them for crazy money in the recent past, Matheus Cunha is the only player who isn’t downgrading... They’re actually a perfect fit.”

Some fans raised eyebrows at the fee. Cunha now has to live up to a number worn by legends.

4️⃣ Bryan Mbeumo- €75m (Manchester United, from Brentford) 🇨🇲🚀

Some called him Salah’s heir. Others called him the most underrated winger in Europe. Mbeumo put up 20 goals and 9 assists last season for Brentford, outrageous numbers for a mid-table side. Chelsea made a late attempt. Newcastle wanted him badly. But Mbeumo had tunnel vision: he only wanted United.

“From the start, I wanted to join this massive club… For me, it’s the biggest club in the world.” United fans are hyped. A ready-made Premier League attacker with proven output. For once, they signed form, not just reputation.

3️⃣ Victor Osimhen-€75m (Galatasaray, from Napoli) 🇳🇬🔥

This saga had everything: mega-money Saudi offers, interest from Arsenal, Juventus, United, and swirling rumours about Osimhen being “too expensive” and “too disruptive” for elite clubs. In the end, he turned down two monster bids from Al Hilal, which would’ve made him the highest-paid African footballer in history, and returned to the place that embraced him: Galatasaray.

"The Galatasaray fans have shown Osimhen a love that he has never experienced before… He hasn't disappointed us," said manager Orkan Buruk. Okan Kuli on X: “The biggest transfer is Victor Osimhen.”

Osimhen scored 37 goals and added 8 assists in 41 games on loan last season. Now it’s permanent. Love over money. He chose loyalty. But will the doubters say it’s a lack of ambition?

2️⃣ Hugo Ekitike- €95m (Liverpool, from Frankfurt) 🇫🇷🇨🇲⚡

This was more than a transfer, it was a response to tragedy. After the shocking death of Diogo Jota and his brother, Liverpool needed a forward. Ekitiké was a bold, high-stakes pick. Most clubs liked the talent but hesitated: he’d flopped at PSG, didn’t look physically ready, and hadn’t proven he could carry a big team. Liverpool ignored the noise.

They paid €95m. Last season in Germany, he silenced doubters: 22 goals, 12 assists in 48 games. "I feel ready to make a bigger step… to see what I can do. That’s why I think it’s the perfect moment to come here."

flygodT on X: “I’m convinced looks affect transfer fees. If Hugo Ekitike was chopped with a bad hairline, I’m 100 percent sure he’d be going for £32 million.” Liverpool are betting on hunger, not just talent. But if he stumbles, the critics won’t hold back.

1️⃣ Florian Wirtz- €125m (Liverpool, from Bayer Leverkusen) 🇩🇪🎨

Liverpool didn’t just break the British transfer record; they did it while snatching Germany’s golden boy out of Bayern’s hands. For weeks, Bayern Munich were confident they had Wirtz locked in.

Personal terms were in place, the fee was nearly agreed, and then Liverpool came storming in. Klopp might be gone, but Liverpool’s ambition clearly isn’t. Wirtz, who had 16 goals and 15 assists in 45 games last season, is already being called the heir to Özil and Götze. Now he’s being asked to carry Liverpool’s creative load in the most chaotic league in Europe. "I just want to play football.

How much money the clubs pay between each other doesn't matter."

Adam Joseph on X: “€125m for Florian Wirtz & €425k per week. Highest Premier League transfer on some of the biggest wages.

Extraordinary expectations from day one... That’s the bar.” The pressure will speak louder than the price tag. Whether Wirtz can handle it, we’re about to find out.

Final Whistle 🕹️💫

This window had it all: loyalty, betrayal, money, heartbreak, and chaos. Wirtz was hijacked, Osimhen followed love, Kudus broke hearts, and Gyökeres fought his way to freedom.

And the window isn’t even closed yet.
