Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid: Saka’s Flair vs Alvarez’s Power— Can the Gunners Hit Their 100th UCL Win

Arsenal return to Champions League action at the Emirates, chasing a special milestone. A win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night would mark their 100th victory in the competition, a feat only a few European giants can boast.

Mikel Arteta’s side have made the perfect start to their European campaign. Two games, two wins, four goals scored, zero conceded. The only criticism fans could have is that the scorelines against Athletic Bilbao and Olympiacos weren’t heavier. But still, Arsenal are one of just six teams with a perfect record, and only Inter Milan share their clean-sheet record.

At home, the Gunners have been untouchable. They’ve won 11 straight Champions League matches at the Emirates without conceding a goal and have also beaten Spanish teams six times in a row, no other club in the competition has done that. Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fulham made it five victories in a row in all competitions, keeping the momentum strong.

Atletico Madrid come in with confidence after thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in their last European outing. Diego Simeone’s side responded well to their opening loss to Liverpool and have now scored in all 11 matches this season. The problem? They haven’t won away from home yet, drawing three and losing two of their five away games.

Still, Atletico are never an easy opponent. They have quality all over the pitch, with Antoine Griezmann pulling the strings and Thiago Almada providing creativity. But history favors Arsenal. The last time Atletico visited the Emirates, they drew 1-1 in 2018, but the Gunners are a different force now under Arteta.
